We know you’re in town to see ‘the tower’ but first we want to show you some of Pisa’s surprising modern history.
Our tour begins with a visit to street artist Keith Haring’s 180 square foot mural, which depicts peace and harmony in the world. Haring practically invented modern street art and this is a rare opportunity to view one of his few outdoor works designed for permanent display.
We will chat about history and culture and tell you what everyday life is like for a typical Pisan as we stroll around some of our favourite neighbourhoods, like the picturesque Lungarni area along the banks of the River Arno. We will stop at a local pastry shop for a mid-morning breakfast in Pisan style.
We will then introduce you to the medieval former trade district with its many bars, restaurants and shops. This area is an explosion of local life; an unexpected corner of the city that hosts places and monuments of rare beauty such as the gorgeous Piazza dei Cavalieri. Here we’ll sit down to enjoy some of our favourite local savoury treats and a glass of local wine in a typical Pisan pizzeria that will pleasantly surprise you.
Our final stop, the pièce de resistance, is upon us. Miracle Square and its incredible monuments have been wowing visitors for almost 1,000 years. We will give you the lowdown on how the square was constructed and why it took more than 200 years to complete the famous Leaning Tower.
We will leave you here to soak up the iconic views. Before we go, your guide will be only too happy to help you take pictures in this iconic place or give you recommendations on what else to see and do while you’re in town. Arrivederci!
