Explore Lucca by Bike: History, Culture, and Flavors

Lucca is a bike-friendly city, perfect for exploring its pedestrian streets, green spaces, and hidden gems.

Your tour begins with a ride around the city walls, where your guide will share the fascinating history of Lucca and how the green areas you’re cycling through came to be. From there, your local guide will lead you through secret passages and hidden spots, offering insights into corners of the city you’re unlikely to discover alone.

We’ll make a stop in the historic centre, admiring Renaissance palaces, churches, and the Guinigi Tower. Venturing into less touristy neighborhoods, you’ll experience the authentic rhythm of local life.

A reward for your efforts awaits! At our favorite shop, you’ll enjoy a generous local food tasting, including cheeses, cured meats, extra virgin olive oil, and a glass of wine. Learn about Tuscany’s rich culinary heritage in the most enjoyable way – by tasting it.

After the tasting, we’ll continue through medieval alleys, ancient gates, and Romanesque churches, stopping at two iconic spots: the San Frediano Basilica and the Amphitheatre Square, one of the city’s most unique attractions.

Our tour also explores the east side of Lucca, offering a more authentic, less touristy experience. We’ll finish by cycling the remaining section of the walls and returning to the city’s heart, Piazza Grande. To top off your day, indulge in gelato at Lucca’s oldest ice cream parlor, a true local treasure.

Our tour ends here, but don’t forget to ask your guide for recommendations on what to see and do next during your time in Lucca.

Book your Lucca bike tour today for an unforgettable journey through history, culture, and Tuscan flavors!

Francis - September 12 2020:

Great experience with Chiara walking (and eating) our way through Lucca. We learned so much about the history of Lucca and the way of life then and now.

Kristen - July 18 2020:

Chiara was a fantastic guide! She is super knowledgeable about Lucca s history, architecture and landmarks. She was so personable and was great with our kids and dog too. We felt so welcomed! We tried delicious local food and the amount for each tasting was perfect! We definitely did not feel hungry. Of course the kids favorites were the pastries and pizza. My husband and I loved trying the Cecina made with chick peas and seasonal chestnut bread roll. Seriously, everything was so great and we recommend her to anyone coming to the Lucca/Pisa area!

Cynthia - September 06 2019:

We loved cycling around Lucca like a local! Marta our guide was passionate and knowledgeable about the history and culture of her city and she took us to places we would never have found on our own. Enjoyed the food stops and the chance to taste the local specialties. At the end of the tour we discovered that my husband had left his backpack at our last food stop. Marta personally escorted us back to the restaurant. Grazie mille Marta.
